Giving back to the community and environment is important to me. Below is a list of volunteer work I’ve done over the years. The pandemic in 2020 put things on hold for a while, and then I lived on the road for a number of years (see more about this on my personal interests page). Now that I have a home base again, I am on the look-out for opportunities in my area.
- Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge
- Alviso Environmental Education Center, San Jose, CA

- Help lead school field trip activities that educate children about water conservation, our local endangered species, and habitats that surround the bay. Supported online activities during the pandemic.
- Service Raleigh

- Service Raleigh is an annual citywide day of service started in 1998 by NC State’s Student Government and Park Scholars. Each year, volunteers from the university and surrounding community unite to undertake a variety of projects, each of which provides much needed assistance to local organizations. Service Raleigh is funded by the Park Foundation, NCSU Student Government, NCSU Inter-Residence Council, and local donors.
- Environmental Tech Summit

- The EnviroTech Summit is a collaborative effort conceived and organized by several environmental professionals who believe that modern software technology can significantly improve workflows, processes, data collection, reporting, and pretty much everything else within the environmental industry. This includes smartphone apps, IoT, APIs, integrations, and other modern software and hardware tech.

- An epic, Earth-focused fair on Earth Day with dozens of exhibits, demonstrations and ideas on how you can make the world a better place. This event was registered as an NC Science Festival event.
